Bognor Regis MRC Ltd with Bognor Regis Model
Railway Club held our annual exhibition on 9 and 10 January 2016 at
Felpham Community College.
With 15 layouts, many that have been featured in the modelling press, 15 traders, together with 6 other society and information stands this was our biggest and best ever. We also figured various “hands on” exhibits which included our Aldingbourne Central "drive a model train layout" and a shunting puzzle.
Every year we present a trophy for the best layout in the show. We exclude Club layouts from this although individual club member's layouts are eligible as well as the visiting layouts. This year the winner of the trophy was decided by a visiting dignitary. We are pleased to say that the selection was quite a challenge. Nevertheless, a clear winner emerged in John Thorne’s narrow gauge layout Purbeck. Well done John but also well done to the other layout exhibitors who gave you a run for your money!
We also held our usual raffle. There were a huge number of prizes although, of course, the ultimate prize was the Raffle Layout - an N gauge package constructed by a team of Club members. The lucky winner of the Raffle Layout was the delightful young lady below - Aimee.
One area which always proves popular is the refreshments - to the extent that some visitors maintain they only come for the bread pudding! We had a new catering team this year, and although the bread pudding was still present and popular, there were a lot of new ideas which went down extremely well. Again, the feedback was positive and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the members involved together with their friends and relatives - well done the team! Having said this, our thanks are also extended to the exhibitors and traders who make the show.
A highlight of the show was a display by our Junior Members - the "Kid's Club". There was a display of the superb dioramas they had made together with them taking turns to demonstrate kit building painting etc. Additionally, several of them helped out with operating layouts and much of the other neccessary work in running an exhibition. They, justifiably, attracted a great deal of attention and many compliments from both exhibitors and visitors. We are truly proud of them and they are to be congratulated. Some of them, with their display, can be seen in the picture below.
All in all, the exhibition did indeed live up
to our hopes and expectations as evidenced by the number of people who
came through the doors over the weekend. Numbers were not as high as in
some previous years but that did not detract from the show’s success.
Finally, we would like to thank you for coming and trust you did enjoy it as much as the evidence suggests.
For your diaries, the date for our next annual exhibition is 14 & 15 January 2017 for which preparations are already underway. Not least, we would like to thank you for coming and trust you did enjoy it as much as the evidence suggests.
